I have a passion for changing the way people think by helping them see the world through the eyes of characters in books!

I’ve been a “new teacher” 5 times, and I always say my dream job would be to get paid to read books. I believe in the value of simply reading. 

When teaching, with curriculum guidelines and tests to prepare for, sometimes it’s easy to let the stories become vehicles for teaching literary elements and vocabulary. I totally get that, and I’ve been there.

The value of reading, however, goes deeper than any test or grade reflects. Each story I engage with gives me the opportunity to see life through someone else’s eyes. I have learned (and remembered) more about history, geography and culture from the stories I have read than I have from any textbook. With these lessons come lessons on kindness, empathy and forgiveness as well. As I go through circumstances and decisions with the characters, I find myself making choices about who I want to be and what sorts of decisions I want to make in my own life.

My hope is to free children to read more, and to free you to prep less, grade less yet still be confident the story has gotten through to these precious young minds. These are the mind of our future.
